About Kayla Livingston
My name is Kayla, and I am a graduating senior at Castleton University earning my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a deep passion for higher education, specifically within the areas of residence life and student success.
My interest in student life began through serving as a Resident Assistant, where I had the privilege of building community among my residents and fostering an environment where they could thrive. In that role, I worked to handle conflict thoughtfully and constructively, prioritizing education and mentorship over punishment.
During this time, I had conducted research into institutional mergers and how that affects those who are staffed at universities. I believe that every student deserves support, guidance, and a sense of belonging during their college years. It is that belief that drives my commitment to pursuing a career in student life and student success. This portfolio reflects not only my academic and professional experiences, but also the values and skills I hope to bring to a future role in higher education.

My journey
It all started during my time in my undergraduate career. I was an active member of the student government association at my college. I did my Associates Degree at SUNY Adirondack Community College and my Bachelors Degree at VTSU Castleton. I had built connections, speaking to my peers about what they wanted out of their college experiences and learning the industry of higher education at large. As a student and a resident life assistant, there were things that were brought to my attention that I attempted to aid in. I noticed a major gap between students and faculty/resources, and faculty to the upper administration of the college. Through doing research on this gap, I grew passionate of the industry at large. Now I am pursuing my Masters degree in Higher Education to further my skillset as a professional in the field.
Favorite Literary Quotes
“I used to analyze myself down to the last thread, used to compare myself with others, recalled all the smallest glances, smiles and words of those to whom I’d tried to be frank, interpreted everything in a bad light, laughed viciously at my attempts ‘to be like the rest’ –and suddenly, in the midst of my laughing, I’d give way to sadness, fall into ludicrous despondency and once again start the whole process all over again – in short, I went round and round like a squirrel on a wheel.”
― Fyodor Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment
“As long as I can make them laugh, it doesn’t matter how, I’ll be alright. If I succeed in that, the human beings probably won’t mind it too much if I remain outside their lives. The one thing I must avoid is becoming offensive in their eyes: I shall be nothing, the wind, the sky.”
― Osamu Dazai, No Longer Human
